Unfortunately, many owners of construction machinery do not pay much attention to the daily maintenance of their equipment. Equipment that really brings the company a profit. However, the correct operation of a construction machine is extremely important.
The words “keep your machines in constant motion” have become our motto. In our work, we strive to efficiently restore hydraulic motors, pumps or gearbox assies to work, but it is worth remembering that the owner of the machine or its operator can prevent many damage due to correct, daily handling.
A very important, though often underestimated matter, is to read the operator’s manual of the machine, as well as the daily maintenance log. It is the operator’s responsibility to check the fluid and oil levels prior to operation. He should also walk around it for a basic visual inspection. He should check for air levels in the tires, leaks, cracks and other possible damage.
It is worth mentioning that a good operator is a treasure. This is because he will take care of the proper condition of the equipment and catch any irregularities. However, you have to remember not to blame it in advance for failures. If the operator is unjustly accused of damage, then in the case of another failure, fearing an unfair reprimand, he may simply not want to report it. Therefore, clear procedures within the company in the event of a hardware failure are also important.
You have to remember that no machine is immune to service negligence or breakdowns. Defects always happen and are an inseparable element of the work of a construction machine. However, you should report them immediately as this will avoid high repair costs.
When the service?
Each construction machine must be checked from time to time by an experienced mechanic and diagnostician. Even if we don’t notice any irregularities. The scope of proper, daily use also includes the manufacturer’s service recommendations, timely replacement of filters and oil service. Minor omissions may be heard at the least expected moment, e.g. at the end of a construction project. It should simply become a habit to operate a construction machine correctly every day.
In the winter season, it is important to clean the machine of mud, snow or ice. It will simply be much more difficult after a frosty night. We wrote more about the service of machines before winter here: “How to prepare a mini excavator for winter?”.
