The excavator is undoubtedly the most important machine on the construction site. It is used to separate spoil and load it on transport machines or stockpile. Hence, they are commonly used for construction, transport or mining earthworks.
We divide excavators primarily due to the nature of their work – they work in a continuous or intermittent cycle. In the first case, there are auxiliary stages between successive stages of the machine’s operation. Excavators designed for intermittent operation has only one bucket. They are usually called … single-bucket excavators. They are very common and most often used. Nn the other hand, continuous excavators have several buckets, and all stages of work follow each other without any interruption. We will adequately call them multi-bucket excavators.
The division of excavators by type of chassis and work equipment
In the case of division due to the chassis, we distinguish tracked, wheeled and walking excavators. Our company sells parts and repairs hydraulic components of tracked excavators. Thanks to caterpillars, these several-tones machines, compared to a wheeled excavator, exert a small point pressure on the ground per surface. Tracked excavators have incomparably better traction than wheeled excavators. Walking excavators are a good solution if construction works take place in really extreme conditions.
The division of excavators according to the work equipment distinguishes 4 types of excavators: shovel, backhoe, gripper and dragline. We can list here 5 types – mini excavators.
Shovel excavators cooperate with the means of transport, they work, going down to the excavation. They are used for large excavations. On the other hand, backhoe excavators are placed on the edge of the excavation, they do not slide down. They are used to create excavations for buildings. They are successfully used on small areas, where it is not possible to use other excavators that slide down into the excavation. Gripper machines are used to select land from water or wet areas. They are especially useful when creating well excavations, dredging canals and rivers or excavating bridges. A dragline excavator is a fairly universal machine – it works well for all types of excavations. It is valued in hydrotechnical works and used in opencast mines to remove the effort.
Of course, the most popular are mini excavators, which we wrote about in previous articles. Small excavators work well in places where ordinary excavators or backhoe loaders have limited access due to their dimensions. The mini excavator will enter almost everywhere and due to its compactness will not cause major damage to the area. You can move on most surfaces, especially if you use rubber tracks. Especially suited to wetlands. In comparison to larger excavators, mini excavators are not in danger of collapsing or getting stuck in the ground.
