Tracked vehicles require the use of effective protection for the bearings of running, support and returnable rollers, hubs or axles of wheel drives against the penetration of dust, sand, mud, stones or soil. In other words, a sliding seal is a metal sealing of the reducer, which aims to maintain the tightness of the hydromotor transmission part.
Slide seals
The drive mechanisms of crawler machines work in difficult conditions and are subjected to high loads. This entails their quick wear. Failures arising with their participation are very expensive and time consuming – however, sliding seals are great in these difficult conditions. They are used worldwide in industrial machinery and equipment. They are perfect where standard sealing with a rubber lip fails. They are resistant to all kinds of dirt and guarantee longer machine life.
When is a slip seal used?
As mentioned above – above all on tracked vehicles that require special protection. Sliding seals are also used in situations of high rotational speeds, up to about 10 m / s and in places requiring minimal friction. They are also successfully used in machines that are exposed to corrosion due to downtime and oil leakage outside. Manufacturers also mention the use of these seals where it is possible to ensure a continuous coverage of the sealing surfaces with lubricant and to remove the heat generated on the surface of cooperating metal rings.
Construction of a sliding seal
The seal consists of two identical metal rings that are seated in the mounting seats by means of rubber o-rings. During assembly, the O-rings are deformed due to the shape of the body. After mounting, the forces restoring the original shape of the O-rings exert pressure on the metal sealing surfaces and transfer the frictional moment to the body components. They also ensure the tightness of the system. In turn, the metal rings open towards the axis of the system and thus form a wedge-shaped gap. Thanks to it, the lubricant drains well and provides adequate cooling. It also prevents the sealing surfaces from heating up.
In our offer you will find a very wide selection of such seals. When ordering, it is very important to provide the seal dimensions – inside and outside diameter, and height. Very often seals differ from each other in millimeters, so precise customer specification is essential. Without this information, you will not be able to choose the right seal.
