For the owner of a construction machine, a failure of a hydraulic motor usually involves additional expenses. In the following article, you will learn the most common symptoms of a hydraulic system failure. So you can react before a serious fault occurs.
The hydraulic system is an essential component of a construction machine. When it fails, the equipment becomes unable to function. The hydraulic system of a construction machine always consists of a pump (or pumps). A travel motor (or motors) and, in the case of an excavator, a swing motor. What’s more, we can also find pumps and motors for the control and cooling systems as well as the auxiliary equipment system. Although these components are generally very durable, they are sometimes damaged. However, it does not happen suddenly. Before each component fails, there is a signal that there is something wrong with it.
Symptoms of hydraulic system failure
The most characteristic symptoms of failure are very high noise in the pump or hydromotor. Very fast and high pressure surges, high vibration of the hoses. Rattling from the engine or hydraulic pump or a cracked housing and leakage from the pump or hydromotor. When you notice any of these symptoms, you must stop the machine immediately and contact the service center. So that the situation does not worsen.
There may also be such symptoms as, for example, choking of the engine with a higher load on the machine, slower machine functions, weakening of the machine depending on the temperature of the hydraulic oil or the machine not working on the control signal from the joysticks. Sometimes the machine is running very slowly or is unable to cope with a heavy load.
Often the cause of failure is simply wear of the pump or hydromotor during normal operation. Obviously, further work with the damaged machine can only make the situation worse. It is best to immediately consult the failure with a specialist who will precisely determine the cause of the problem and assess the scale of repairs.
